3 nights in Austin, TX
Howdy! I am going to give you all the details to our Anniversary Trip to Austin , TX. This trip was great! We went in January with my brother & sister in law. Our anniversaries are only 4 days apart, so it was fun to celebrate together!
Thursday
9:00 am Depart Lafayette
3:00ish pm Arrive Downtown Austin. We stayed in my sister in law’s family members loft at the Plaza downtown
3:00-6:00 pm Hopped on a scooter & headed to SoCo where we did a little shopping. From here we headed back downtown, played a little ping pong & enjoyed a beer at Spin.
6:00-7:30 pm Hung out in the loft, enjoyed some wine, got ready for dinner
8:00 pm Dinner at the Launderette (see below). Petey & I split a bottle of Chianti. The table shared the burrata & beet hummus appetizers. We all ordered an entree: the hanger steak, brick chicken, NY strip, & the ragu. Then we finished off the night with Biscoff Ice-cream.
Friday
8:30 am Breakfast @ Walton’s Fancy & Staple. This is the cutest flower-shop + cafe. We ordered French Toast, Breakfast Biscuit, & Avocado Toast. All good, but only thing not my favorite was the biscuit ratio- it was a whole lot of biscuit. Also, grab a toasted honey almond latte.
10:00 am - 12:00 pm Barton Springs Greenbelt. We began at the spyglass trail head. To the right you can find 2 rock climbing walls & a rope swing (too cold in January). To the left the flats & Campbell’s hole- pretty scenery!
1:00 am Hang out in East Austin. We had Drinks at Nickel City- super cool dive bar. Looks like it’s been there forever, but the bartender said it was just a couple of years old! We knew about it from an article in Garden & Gun- it was funny because they didn’t even have the drink that the article talked about haha!
2:30- 5:00 pm Loro Happy Hour. Y’all, an asian smokehouse?!?! This was my favorite food stop of the trip. The Happy Hour menu was great- our 2 favorite things off it were the Chicken Karaage & Smoked Brisket Tostadas. There is indoor & outdoor seating, very casual with counter service. Loro is the food child of Aaron Franklin (Franklin BBQ) & Tyson Cole (Uchi)!
5:30 - 7:30 pm Drinks on Rainy Street
7:30 - 10:00 pm Drinks at the Rustic Tap on West 6th. Another super casual spot with fire pits & lawn chairs. My brother liked this place because of the awesome (according to him) TX country playlist
10:00 pm Late night pizza at Via 313. I found this place on yelp while sitting at Rustic Tap and then couldn’t find it when I was trying to walk there. That is because it was located inside another bar! It’s a food truck and I would recommend the Carnivore & the ambassador bridge. We didn’t love the cheese & pepperoni
Saturday
8:30 am Jos Downtown for coffee
9:00 am - 10:00 am Downtown Farmers Market. I grabbed a breakfast taco from Ninja, very good! I also picked up dog treats from Chow Hound & Chewie loves them
11:00 am BBQ from the original Blacks. We ordered Fatty Brisket, Half Chicken, Mac & Cheese, Norma Jean Beans, Sweet Potatoes, Peach Cobbler, & oh they have unlimited white bread!
12:30 pm Steel City Pops. No clue how I fit anything else in my stomach at this time, but I did! I got a peanut butter pop dipped in milk chocolate with sea salt. Melise got mint chocolate dipped in dark chocolate. According to Melise their buttermilk pop is the BEST!
1:30- 4:00 Hopped back on some scooters and rode around downtown, stopped in at REI & the record store, grabbed a beer with our friends at Star Bar
4:30 pm Charcuterie (duh), Dinner & Drinks on Lake Austin with family
Sunday
9:00 am Headed back home, but you know we stopped at Buccees in Bastrop
I hope you found this helpful! I love traveling.. anywhere! Sometimes it is nice to be able to drive to a destination & have your vehicle handy during the trip. If you’re in Lafayette, ATX is a pretty easy drive. There is also much more to do than what I touched on above. If you are still looking for other ideas check out my Austin TX: Bachelorette Edition post— we did a day on Lake Travis last summer and IT WAS A BLAST!
