Chicot State Park: A fun Staycation idea only an hour away
Hi! Wow it has been a while since I have posted over here on the blog. Today is Tuesday so I thought I would post a #traveltuesday idea!
If you are from the Acadiana or Central Louisiana area, this place is just down the road. I grew up going to Chicot State Park, but it was Peteys first time.
From Lafayette, the drive is about 1 hour. There are lots of family friendly activities at Chicot State Park including camping, canoeing, biking and hiking. There are also cabins for rent and activities for kids of all ages- think Splash-pad, Playground, and a specific Kidβs Hiking Trail.
We decided to hike the South Landing Trail. It is a moderate trail with a little elevation (surprised for Louisiana). The trail is usually 8.3 miles, but half of it was closed so we did 4 miles. This took us about 2 hours. There was a bridge at mile 2 & people were fishing off of it. The trail was shaded and full of wildlife. We saw & heard wild pigs and even a deer! We brought Chewie and I was a little nervous with the pigs, but we didnβt have any problems. The pine woods are known for ticks sooooo Chewie is going to probably stay home next time.
There are a few other trails including the Lake Chicot Loop Trail which is 17.3 miles long and moderate. I like using the All Trails App to follow while hiking. Remember to bring lots of water & bug spray.
The cost for entry into the park was $3 a person and well worth it!
