Christina is back… and shes dishing out all of the deets on Verity! This one was a good one y’all! Read below and buy this book ASAP!
Our book club unanimously liked a book…let’s give it up for Verity, by Colleen Hoover! However, let it be known, this isn’t one of those books you shout from the roof top that you loved because, well, it’s a bit twisted. Nonetheless, we loved this book. There’s nothing like a bone-chilling novel to bring a group of girlfriends together! Trending on each of our sources for new books (Instagram pages Reese’s Book Club and Jordy’s Book Club , the GoodReads app, and a few friends recommendations) was Verity. It isn’t always easy to find a book that none of our book club members have read, so when we found one with this much attention that isn’t sitting on anyone’s shelf, we knew we have to give it a shot!
Verity is about Jeremy Crawford, a loving husband and father, who hired Lowen Ashleigh, an aspiring author, to complete a series of novels his wife Verity is unable to complete due to a devastating car accident. In an effort to understand how to complete the series, Lowen temporarily moves into the Crawford home to absorb all-things-Verity. Lowen inadvertently discovers a manuscript of Verity’s autobiography…the autobiography she never intended for anyone to read. Her growing friendship with Jeremy presents a challenging decision: share the haunting revelations found in the manuscript or preserve Jeremy’s loving perspective of his ill wife.
There were a couple ways to Cook The Book but when we discovered that Jeremy and Verity’s first meal together was shared at Steak and Shake, a diner-style burger chain, we knew it was time to bring out the air fryer for French fries and grill up some steak burgers! As much as we enjoyed our burgers and fries, nothing beats a cookies & cream milkshake with whipped cream and a cherry on top! YUM. Our host took it to the next level by printing and laminating the menu for us and essentially provided everything that you can find on the menu! Her beautiful kitchen was transformed into one of the iconic Steak and Shake diners and we had a blast!
Verity is not going to melt your heart. It isn’t a feel-good book. Rather, Colleen Hoover explicitly brings you into a world of neglect, betrayal, obsession and (a couple) twisted love stories. At times, it’s difficult to read but trust us, it’s worth it! So, challenge yourself to making homemade burgers, fries and milkshakes and have fun cooking the book!
MENU
Steak Burgers
Liz used a mixture of rib-eye & deer meat. She weighed them out to 1/4 pound each and seasoned with salt & pepper. These were cooked in her cast iron skillet for 3-4 minutes per side, or until they are cooked to your liking- she prefers medium well.
Serve up your steak burgers with toasted buns, sliced cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions- ALL OF THE FIXINGS! and don’t forget your favorite condiments!
Waffle Fries
These were as easy as buying a bag of frozen waffle fries & cooking them in the air fryer! Seriously, effortless but delicious
Oreo Milk Shakes
Pick Up a 1/2 Gallon of Blue Bell Cookie Two Step (THE BEST!) Ice Cream, a gallon of milk, Oreos, and canned whip cream…. we didn’t say this was healthy y’all!
In a zip top bag, add some Oreos and crush them with a rolling pin.
In a blender add ice cream, milk, Oreos and blend away to the consistency you prefer.
Pour into a glass and top with spray whip cream!
There you go! We hope that you have enjoyed this Month’s Cook Your Book. We decided on Ask Again Yes for our next read, but may be meeting virtually. We will keep you updated.
