Lunchin' at Spoonbill
Who loves to lunch? Lafayette, La is a unique city. This is for a lot of reasons, but one thing that I have come to love about this city is that lunch on Friday is a thing. Seriously, the weekend begins at noon for (in my mind) a lot of people in Lafayette. Even most doctors offices are closed after lunch on Fridays. That hasn’t always been and still kind of isn’t the case for my work life, but every now and then I am off on Friday & LOVE IT.
I try and eat at home as much as possible, but if I am going to eat out for lunch Friday is my favorite day to do it. This past Friday I enjoyed a delicious lunch at downtown’s newest establishment Spoonbill (the old filling station). I have had breakfast/brunch here a couple of times, but never lunch or dinner. The menu had so many things I wanted to order and my sister in law and I decided to order 2 different things and split… MY FAVORITE THING TO DO!
Atmosphere: If it is a pretty day head to Spoonbill. The majority of their seating is outdoor. They were packed so we sat inside which still was nice because of the large windows.
Drinks: I had an Abita Amber. Cheryl had an Aperol Spritz- Aperol, Prosecco, & Topo Chico. I had a sip of hers and it’s was refreshing reminding me of a perfect poolside drink.
Lunch:
Crab Quesadilla: flour tortilla packed with blue crab claw meat, herbs, and a creamy mix of cheddar and mascarpone, served with roasted tomato sour cream. AH this was really good.. not fishy at all, would also be perfect as a starter for a table of 4 because it came with 4 pretty big pieces.
Caprese Panini: fresh mozzarella, basil, and tomato on a crispy grilled sandwich served with tomato soup au gratin topped with tomato relish. The cheese pull on this was real and not just on the sandwich, but the soup too. I wish I would have had a picture of it! I can’t wait to order this again and figure out how to make this in my kitchen :).
Y’all… I would 100% recommend Spoonbill . Breakfast in the past was good, but I think I enjoyed the lunch/dinner menu a tad better. Another plus.. it’s dog friendly! I have brought Chewie in the past and they bring water and treats for your pup.
I hope that you have enjoyed this weeks feature of a local spot here in Lafayette. Let me know if you give them a try! I can’t wait for my next review and until then follow along with me on Instagram @thevintagefork
Happy Eating- Liz
