I recently read (well listened) to 28 Summers by Elin Hilderbrand. It is a love affair that happens at the “same time next year” on the island of Nantucket. As always, Hilderbrand makes you feel like you personally know every character in the book.
I have rounded up a couple of my recipes that would be perfect for a 28 Summers Book Club meet up.
Every year over Labor Day weekend, the first meal shared by Mallory & Jake is burger with fresh tomatoes and shucked corn.
These Red White & Basil Burgers are absolutely delicious and hit not only the burger tomato ingredients, but are also on theme with Labor Day!
As for the shucked corn, you have to serve my Cajun Street Corn as a side for your guests.
No specific dessert stuck out to me while listening. After reading The Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand a couple of weeks ago, I posted a recipe on Instagram for frozen s’mores inspired by the front desk s’mores packets for the hotel guests.
I want to try something new! If you read this book, I would love if you would comment your answers below. Kind of like a virtual book club!
What did you think of Mallory & Jake’s relationship?
At the beginning of each year Hilderbrand gives a few pop culture references of what is going on in that year. Did you like this introduction? Did this teleport you back to where you were during this time?
Did you like knowing of Mallory’s cancer diagnosis from chapter one? or would you have rather this been thrown on you at the end of the book?
I am on the waitlist at the library for The Sixth Wedding by Elin Hilderbrand. Jake McCloud returns to Nantucket for Labor Day weekend 2023, this time without Mallory. I am very curious to what this short story is about. Is it Cooper’s 6th wedding or do Link & Bess get married…. or has Jake finally left Ursula?
